Traditional dinners, or an excuse to get the family together?

I'm sure there are many families out there that celebrate the same dinners for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter etc. I'm also sure they are pretty predictable. The crazy aunts and uncles. The fights and quarrels between loved ones. Or that one family member that either gets too drunk or falls asleep every year. These are things to either cringe at the thought of, or look forward to. I for one, look forward to them. I don't see my cousins all the time, nor do I the rest of my family all the time. Even though we only live about 15 minutes away from each other. It's not because we don't like each other, but because our busy lives get in the way and we can't make the time.

I think it's great to have a tradition of getting together, and what better way than to involve food? Everyone eats, and you already have an idea what's on the menu. So why not? For Christmas we have Ham with all the sides. Thanksgiving we obviously have Turkey with the sides as well. When dinner is done, out comes the Tupperware and leftovers go home with everyone. I for one, LOVE leftovers. Turkey sandwiches? Who isn't a fan?

Sometimes my immediate family will have dinners that we deem "special". They consist of my Korean mothers food: Rice, Korean ribs, Kimchee (all different types), spicy pork, Lettuce, red bean paste, fish etc... This dinner is one of my favorites and is always the best. My parents and I don't normally sit at the table, or even have dinner at the same time. However, when my mom cooks a Korean meal, we are all sitting at the table and talking about our days. Again, a time where food brings my family together. And I love to eat! So I'm always there!

Facebook is a Community...

Everyday, people will log in to the site and update eachother on their whereabouts, daily activities and even what they ate that day. The glue of this community is the curiosity of those on the site. People get their daily fix of useless information and feel better about the knowledge. Another reason people are so involved, is because it keeps people in touch, without even having to ask how someone's day was. It's all right there in front of our face.
The interests, needs and values are all listed perfectly in the profile "info" section and again, there is no need to ask. You will have the information whether you like it or not. Apparently for most of those using the site, they have a hint of "Peeping Tom" in them. Some lurk others pages for information that isn't necessarily given but "available". They need this to keep a watchful eye on others. It's a little creepy if you think about it...
Throughout the site, there are "groups" where people gather to talk about issues, or facts, or even movies and it holds those people together. However, there are those that like to stir up a little controversy and start arguments over the typical issue of politics or religion. You can have your discussions over the site without an actual physical fight as a possibility. A flinging of verbal venom that you wouldn't be held to in later posts. This crazy melting pot of people from different backgrounds, lifestyles, religions and interests come together to create something completely unique in itself and make it for an interesting portion of life.
With me, I guess I fit in this community as part of a smaller section. It's one huge community of people, but I have my amount of friends and it's a vast array of individuals that come from different view points and strong opinions. I am one of the many updaters and ranters among the many and blend in with all the commotion going on. I love knowing what's going on with the people I know and maybe be a little snoopy from time to time. It's fun and interesting and something to look forward to throughout the day. No matter how mundane the updates. I mean...how else are you going to keep up with over 300 friends...or more?

HEY! Get out of my wallet!!

Just from a look into my wallet, you could see that I have joined almost all the grocery store savings clubs. So yes, I'm frugal. I have a Petsmart club card which could tell people that I have a pet and could make me into an animal lover. I'm a Costco member, so I might buy in bulk and that would support assumptions that I like to save money. I keep pictures of family members. One might not realize that two of the pictures are of my parents, being that the pictures are of them when they were my age. I also have a picture of my younger brother, both when he was overweight and when he lost almost 100lbs and became a Marine. My age would be determined by my drivers license and you'd be able to see a picture of me not only on that but my school ID. I have one too many credit cards, and I carry little cash.

Many assumptions can be made with what you would see in my wallet. Obviously, I'm a saver of money, being that the other obvious is that I don't have much of it. I'm an animal lover. I have a very close relationship with my parents and younger brother. There would probably be a guess that I had two brothers, which is true, however, one is older and the only one in pictures is the younger. The two pictures of him are of huge contrast of his magnificent transformation and battle of his weight. My ethnic background might still be very hard to determine since I don't have anything stating what I am. However, one could see that I am of mixed race with the photos of my parents, father being Caucasian, and mother being Asian. My age would be very known, as well as where I attend school.

It's hard to say what people would determine just by the contents of my wallet, but I know there would be much to be left unsaid. I'm a hard worker, I'm smart, funny, what music I listen to and what I plan to do with the degree I'm trying to get from the school they would know I attend. They wouldn't know what kind of dog I had just by my Petsmart card. Or even if I had a dog. I could have a fish for all they know. My true identity would be very vague. Being that everyone has a club card to a grocery store or two. It's hard to delve into someones life or background by just a wallet. Maybe I could take a peek into a friends wallet (with their permission of course) and see what's to be said about them and get an idea. Looking into my own is a little hard, being that I know who I am.
